The challenge

Across the group's primary care and specialty clinics, providers were spending up to two hours after clinic finishing notes, and pre-visit chart review was squeezing already tight schedules. Documentation burden was showing up where it always does first: in after-hours work, visit overruns, and provider burnout scores.

Replacing the EHR was off the table. The group had years of workflow, training, and reporting built on its existing system, and leadership had no appetite for a rip-and-replace project. Any AI support had to meet providers inside the tools they already used.

The approach

The group deployed AIdMD Insights as an AI layer on top of its existing EHR. Patient context — history, medications, labs, and open care gaps — is pulled automatically, so providers open each visit with a structured pre-visit summary instead of a chart-diving session.

During visits, the ambient scribe drafts structured notes (HPI, ROS, and assessment & plan) from the natural conversation, while chart-aware insights surface relevant history alongside. After the visit, the actions workflow drafts follow-ups, referrals, and patient instructions for provider review.

Every output passes through clinician review and sign-off — a governance requirement the group's clinical leadership set on day one, and one that matches how the product is built. Rollout ran clinic by clinic, with providers live within days of kickoff rather than months.

“AIdMD gave us a way to add AI support to our existing EHR workflow without asking providers to learn an entirely new system. Adoption was faster because it fit how our teams already work.”
